Sahakyan Choir gave first concert in Yerevan on the sidelines of the “Komitas Vardapet” Pan-Armenian Festival

On October 18, the Sahakyan Choir of Istanbul gave its first concert at the American University of Armenia on the sidelines of the “Komitas Vardapet” Pan-Armenian Festival in Yerevan. The concert was held with the support of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

During the concert, the choir performed the songs of Komitas, Makar Yekmalyan, Armen Tigranyan, Khachatur Avetisyan and others.

In the end, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Diaspora Firdus Zakaryan gave a speech and presented the choir with a certificate of participation in the “Komitas Vardapet” Pan-Armenia Festival held by the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

The choir is celebrating its 310th anniversary. Eighty children sing in the Sahakyan children’s choir of the St. Gevorg Armenian Church of Istanbul, and the group of seniors includes 70 young Istanbul-Armenians who play an important role in the cultural life of the Istanbul-Armenian community. The participants also take part in inter-church and international competitions and keep the honor of the Istanbul-Armenian community high.
