Armenians in Armenia, in Nagorno-Karabakh and in the Diaspora need to present themselves to the international community as a whole
On the night of 4 April, His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos had a phone conversation with President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, and on the morning of 5 April-with His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, expressing total solidarity of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia and the people. His Holiness Aram I also received members of the traditional Armenian political parties.
The message of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia reads as follows:
“The Supreme Patriarchs stressed the importance of harmonizing all the efforts that the Dioceses will make to provide assistance to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Today His Holiness received representatives of the Social Democratic (Hunchakian) Party, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun and the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party (Ramgavar). The only topic of the discussion was clearly Nagorno-Karabakh.
Talking about the possibilities to support Nagorno-Karabakh, the Supreme Patriarch stressed the following points:
(a) Any action to support Nagorno-Karabakh needs to be taken with the unified spirit and through combined efforts. Armenians in Armenia, in Nagorno-Karabakh and in the Diaspora need to present themselves to the international community as a whole, with the collective will and in the same voice!
(b) Amid the war taking place in the world today, the information and propaganda war is perhaps more important. The Diaspora plays a major role here in the sense of presenting the Nagorno-Karabakh issue correctly and comprehensively to foreign presses.
(c) We also note that it is necessary for every Armenian community to express its protest against the Azerbaijanis’ disrespectful and barbaric attacks and express total solidarity with the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and to the rights of the nation in a way that is appropriate.”
