Spain’s Xirivella city became one of Spain’s cities to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, as posted on the Facebook page of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Xirivella is the third city of Spain to recognize the Armenian Genocide this past month. Pinto recognized the Armenian Genocide on March 26, and the plenary council of the municipality of Bétera took a decision on recognition during its March 17 session, writes armeniangenocide100.org.
In the decision of the latter it is mentioned that between 1915 and 1921, especially during the reign of the Young Turks, the Armenians in Turkey were subject to massacres and deportations that took the lives of 1.5 million Armenians, and another 2 million were forced to leave their homes and take shelter in different parts of the world, forming the Armenian Diaspora.
