“From Dardanelles to Palestine”: The story of Armenian soldier Sarkis Torossian
Alhayat newspaper has published an article devoted to the novel “From Dardanelles to Palestine” in which the author talks about Sarkis Torossian, who was born in the Ottoman Empire, was a brilliant soldier, graduated a military college and went on to receive his higher education in Germany. He served in the army and became very popular. He modestly defended and reinforced the country’s interests and borders.
The book was translated and published by the Arab Riad Alrayis Publishing House.
The book was presented by Joseph Keshishian and was translated by Abdul Rrahman Ayasi. The Turkish translation was done by Professor of the University of Belgium, Turkish historian Ihan Aktar in 2012.
The reader can clearly see that the name “Torossian” and Torossian’s victories in the Battle of Gallipoli have been completely deleted from the history of Turkey. Several military ships of the enemy were destroyed thanks to Torossian.
The Arabic publication of the book coincides with the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
In the book, Torossian recalls the beautiful images of the East, as well as the war and the threats.
In the preface, Keshishian refers to Sarkis as “The Torossian of the Arabs” and mentions the role of the Arabs in saving Armenians from annihilation. “The Armenians survived thanks to the Arabs who, with their virtue, let the Armenians maintain their national and religious traditions and granted them all the rights that they didn’t have on the lands of their ancestors.”
