Syrian-Armenian schoolchildren visit the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran)

As part of the events dedicated to Mother Language Day, more than 30 Syrian-Armenian schoolchildren representing Andranik Margaryan School N 29 of Yerevan visited the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran). The visit was organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the Center for Coordination of Syrian-Armenians’ Issues NGO.

The children were very excited as they toured the exhibition halls of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts. They were introduced to the manuscripts, old maps and antique books and learned about the history of the Matendaran. They also learned about the history of Armenian culture, starting from the creation of the Armenian alphabet by Mesrop Mashtots and leading up to the 18th century.

The Syrian-Armenian schoolchildren were especially interested in the medieval miniature paintings, the manuscripts devoted to cosmology and medicine, as well as the “Msho Tcharntir” (various discourses of Mush).
