International recognition of the Armenian Genocide discussed on Spain’s national television

The subsequent program for the “The Second For Everyone” (“Para todos la 2”) Spanish television program aired on Spain’s Second Television Channel (La 2) was devoted to the Armenian Genocide. The guests on the show were President of Ararat Armenian Association Ararat Ghukasyan and author of the new book “The Memory of Ararat” (“La memoria del Ararat”), writer, journalist, correspondent for the “El periódico” Daily Xavier Moret.
The topic of the show was the Armenian Genocide, the reasons for, the process and the consequences of that crime against humanity, recognition today and Turkey’s state policy of denial and the Armenians’ claims. The show began with the showing of a cognitive documentary film about the Armenian Genocide in which interpreter Ernest Baskompte Samso presented the Armenian Genocide, Turkey’s current state apparatus for denial and the countries that have officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.
The showing of the film was followed by an interview hosted by hostess Marta Caseres. The first question was the following: “Did the Genocide that took place a century ago have an impact on Armenians today?” Ararat Ghukasyan responded to this question and said that the 10 million Armenians living in Armenia and abroad definitely feel the trace of the Genocide that will remain an unhealed wound as long as there is still no adequate response and as long as Turkey continues to deny the Armenian Genocide. When asked whether time can play a role or not, Ghukasyan said: “Even if 100 years go by, forgetting it will be a sin not only for us Armenians, but for the international community as well.”
Writer Xavier Moret affirmed, mentioned that he visited Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex on 24 April 2013 and added the following :”You definitely have to go there to understand what that is. Armenia is a marvelous country, and the Armenian people are marvelous. You definitely have to visit Armenia to understand their hospitality, their love, their sorrow and all this. I am in love with Armenia.”
During the interview, Marta Caseres mentioned that she had also invited Turkey’s Ambassador and representatives of the Turkish Embassy, but they hadn’t even responded to the invitation. Ghukasyan added that it was clear why they hadn’t responded.
Writer Xavier Moret mentioned that it’s very important for countries like Spain and Israel to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide so that such crimes, which we unfortunately witness today in different parts of the world, are never repeated.
At the end, Ararat Ghukasyan cited William Saroyan’s famous words about the Armeninas: “For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.”
After the interview, an agreement was reached on joint and ongoing cooperation. Xavier Moret’s new book will be presented by Ararat Ghukasyan at Patagonia Bookstore in Valencia.
