Valerie Boyer introduces new bill on criminalization of genocides denial
French MP Valerie Boyer has introduced a bill, which considers imposing criminal punishment upon the deniers of the 20th century’s genocides and crimes committed against humanity. As reports Armenpress, Nouvelles d’Armenie stated about this.
Valerie Boyer does not consider it fair that France has officially recognized both the Armenian genocide and the Holocaust, whereas only the denial of the Holocaust is criminally punishable.
“The issue of the Eastern Christians of Iraq, which United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon qualifies as crime against humanity, certifies about the urgency of adopting the bill on criminalization of the denial of all the genocides and crimes committed against humanity. The bill on denial needs urgent adoption,” said Valerie Boyer, stressing that the new bill suggested by her will help to avoid the deadlock, which threatened the previous bill in consequence of the decision of the Constitutional Court.
“The text of the new bill is universal, as it defends all the genocides, which are recognized by the French government and corresponds to human rights. The bill will soon be available in the official site of the National Council,” she said.
