Students of Sydney’s Arshak and Sophie Galstaun College of Hamazkayin visit the RA Ministry of Diaspora

On September 30, students of Arshak and Sophie Galstaun College of Hamazkayin in Sydney visited the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

Founded in 1986, the College comprises a pre-school, kindergarten, middle and high schools where Armenian children are taught the Armenian language, history and religion. Armenian is taught as the native language in Western Armenian and Eastern Armenian in all schools of the college. The college also offers the Armenian as a Second Language Program for children with limited knowledge of the Armenian language.

The students of Sydney’s Armenian college first watched a video about the activities carried out by the RA Ministry of Diaspora and had a meeting with RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Serzh Srapionyan, who highly appreciated the college’s activities over the past 28 years and mentioned that “maintaining such a high-class school abroad is a heroic act, to say the least.”

RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan also hosted the students of Hamazkayin’s Arshak and Sophie Galstaun College in Sydney.

Expressing gratitude for the cordial reception, the students of the college and their accompanying teachers introduced the illustrated book about the 50-year college and donated it to Minister Hranush Hakobyan.

The RA Minister of Diaspora praised the college’s unprecedented efforts aimed at preserving the Armenian identity in Australia. The minister also mentioned that the RA Ministry of Diaspora will be marking its 6th anniversary on 1 October and invited the college teachers to participate in the ceremony.

The minister also gave badges with the Forget-Me-Not flower symbolizing the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and stressed the following: “Each of you must work hard to become good people, good Armenians and receive a good education because in this age of globalization, being competitive professionals is more than necessary.”
