On September 17, the Union of Composers of Armenia held a concert entitled “Bells of Repatriation”.
It was a unique project that brought together Syrian-Armenian musicians, composers, performers, choirmasters and choir singers having moved to Armenia as a result of the latest events in Syria. The Union’s goal was to inform the public that in spite of the current difficulties, Syrian-Armenian artists continue to pursue their careers and improve their professional skills in the homeland. It should be mentioned that local musicians also supported the Syrian-Armenian musicians during the concert.
The welcoming remarks by President of the Union Aram Satyan were followed by two performances by young Syrian-Armenian composer Sarkis Adamian, one of which was a premiere of a song written for the termenvox and piano. The concert also included performances of Dzovinar Hovhannisian’s songs written for the canon and piano and a surprise performance by wonder kids who sat around the piano and performed Hollenhauer’s song. The “Quartet” String Quartet performed after the children’s performance.
The musicians also performed the works of Komitas’s music, and the concert ended with wonderful performances by the St. Hovhannes Armenian Church’s choir led by Shahen Keshishian.
