In Turkey there are topics that are taboos, and one of those topics is the theft and usurpation of Armenians’ properties following the Armenian Genocide.
This time NEWS.am presents the story of the family of the owner of one of the largest holdings in Turkey which, according to neighbors, is greatly linked to the usurpation of the wealth that the Armenians had left behind.
The story is about the Erens, who are the owners of Eren Holding. The holding can be considered one of the holdings backed by Recep Tayyib Erdogan. The president of the holding is Ahmed Eren. He has a university degree, took over the family businesses in 1970 and has been enhancing them ever since.
At first sight, it seems as though everything is logical, but the people in Ahmed Eren’s hometown of Bitlis tend to differ. In Bitlis Ahmed Eren’s family lived in a house that was robbed from the Armenians. The house is located in the same district where William Saroyan’s family once lived.
Neighbors claim that the Erens initially obtained their capital thanks to the great wealth that they found in the robbed house, meaning the Erens started doing well when they found the wealth that the Armenians had left behind. One of the neighbors mentioned that in addition to finding large amounts of gold in the house that once belonged to the Armenians, the Erens also found precious works of art.
Eren’s holding includes dozens of enterprises involved in the fields of energy, textile, mining, light industry, automobile construction and large transfers. In addition, the holding also represents large trademarks in Turkey and the CIS countries. Eren Holding has more than 8,000 employees.
