Guests from the Aleppo Secondary Educational School at the RA Ministry of Diaspora

On July 29, long-term Director of the Aleppo Secondary Educational S. Jemberjian School AndranikPoghosian and Member of Board of Trustees of the Aleppo Educational-Cultural Association George Kasarian visited the RA Ministry of Diaspora and had a meeting with the RA Minister of Diaspora HranushHakobyan.
The meeting was attended also by the Deputy Chairman of “The Center for Coordination of Syrian-Armenian Issues” NGO AlexanKaradanaian, who also used to be a long- term member of the Aleppo Secondary Educational S. Jemberjian School.
AndranikPoghosianbriefed on the historical background and the current activity ofthe school. The School was founded in 1924 as a preschool, and in 2003 a secondary educationalschool was opened to ensure the pupils’ further education.
In 2006, being upgraded to the Educational level, a secondary school was opened in it, renamed the Aleppo Educational S. Jemberjian Secondary School. This activity became possible due to the material and moral support by benefactor and donator Gabriel Jemberjian. Recently, Christians of other nationalities also have attended the school; they receive Armenian education and subsequently become “Ambassadors of the Armenians in foreign countries”. Currently the School has 540 pupils.
Ignoring the current difficulties, the school still operates, having its active contribution in the Armenian, national and cultural life in Aleppo and its involvement in the national education and training of the young Armenian generation.
Rating high AndranikPoghosian’seffective community activity, as well as his invaluable contribution in strengthening and development of the Armenia-Diaspora scientific-educational interaction, Armenian education and training of the generations, and preservation of the Armenian identity, the Minister HranushHakobyan awarded him with “Ambassador of the Mother Tongue” Medal.
AndranikPoghosian used to be the member of Qamishli Municipality, as well as the member and later on the Head of the Board of Trustees of the National School. In 1990-1993, he was the Head of the Council of Qamishli municipality and its regions. In 1991, he was elected as a member of Berio Armenian Diocese provinceforum, representing Jasire region. He was elected for the second and third terms as a member of the province forum of Berio Diocese, representing for the time being the main Aleppo colony. He was the member and subsequently the Head of the Armenian estates Board of Trustees within Berio Diocese. He also was prosecutor of the pre-court instance of the procedural board under BerioDiocese. From 1999 to present he has been the Director of the Aleppo Educational S. Jemberjian Secondary School.
AndranikPoghosian and George Kasaian rated high the efforts of the RA Ministry of Diaspora aiming at the support of the Armenian community in Syria during these challenging days and keeping it vital. He conveyed the acknowledgement of the entire Syrian community stating that they have always sensed the powerful support from the Homeland.
