First training course for teachers of secondary and high schools-2017 “Diaspora” Summer School Program

On July 4, the secondary and high school teachers participating in the Training Course for Armenian Language and History Teachers and Educators (part of the “Diaspora” Summer School Program) started the day with Deputy Director of Primary School #4 of Yerevan Larisa Mkrtchyan.

Larisa Mkrtchyan presented the educational programs designed for different classrooms and touched upon various sections of Armenian grammar. “When you teach nouns, ask children which of them are pronouns, and everyone will stand up. When a pupil doesn’t find the noun he wants, step out of the boundaries of the classroom and let the child find it in his surroundings,” Larisa Mkrtchyan said.

Talking about literature, the participants recalled several works, recited them and performed songs.

“Mrs. Mkrtchyan, you explain everything so figuratively and beautifully that I want to become a child and be your student,” one of the participants from Denmark said.

The second lesson was hosted by Professor of Haigazian University of Beirut, candidate of mathematical sciences Hagop Yacoubian. The lesson was devoted to the development of critical thinking during the teaching of Armenological subjects.

“Critical thinking is not something that just happens. There has to be a relevant educational basis for that. Each person should have the opportunity to express his own views and be equally appreciated,” he particularly mentioned.

At the end, the participants had a meeting with Associate Professor of the Chair of Pedagogy at Yerevan State University Armine Ashikyan and considered the modern issues of pedagogy.
