Hranush Hakobyan: “The importance of the humanitarian aid is not as much material as it is moral”

Armenia has delivered another batch of humanitarian aid to Syria. The aircraft loaded with clothing, food, medical items and sleeping bags landed at Khmeimim Air Base located in the Syrian city of Latakia. During a press conference, RA Minister of Emergency Situations Davit Tonoyan stressed that Armenia had delivered about 20 tons of cargo to Syria. “The cargo will be transported to the Russian Air Base in Latakia, and from there it will be transported by vehicles to Aleppo, escorted by a Russian military convoy,” the Minister emphasized, reported Armenpress.

Through the assistance of the Armenian community, the humanitarian aid will be distributed to Syrians as well. “In this batch of humanitarian aid, clothing and sleeping bags are the main items,” Tonoyan concluded. RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan told journalists that 4 humanitarian aid aircrafts had been sent to Syria over the past 4 months as a result of the cooperation between Russia and Armenia and under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Armenia.

“The importance of the humanitarian aid is not as much material as it is moral. Our compatriots are very happy and confident when they feel their Homeland is by their side. Throughout these years, the ambulance service has been operating under the direction of our spiritual dioceses, which not only receive and distribute the cargo to Syrian-Armenians and Syrians, but also find solutions for issues across Syria in an organize manner,” Hakobyan said. The Minister added that the Armenian community of Krasnodar has sent flour to Aleppo where Armenians baked bread in bakeries and distributed the bread to Syrians. “We have also conveyed our warmth and support to the fraternal people of Syria in this way as well. I wish them patience and peace,” Hakobyan said. Earlier, on February 14, Armenia delivered another batch of humanitarian aid to Syria. The cargo included food and various first necessity items.
