Kessab-Armenians are inspired by our presence and by the fact that the Republic of Armenia has raised its voice and has declared that Armenians will stand up for their compatriots’ rights”

Most of the Kessab-Armenians moved from Kessab have taken shelter in the Saint Mary Church and in the school located in the churchyard.

This is what Deputy of the faction of the Republican Party of Armenia Samvel Farmanyan told HayNews.am.

Let us mention that several deputies of the National Assembly have left for Syria to meet with the Armenians in Kessab. Today they left Damascus for Latakia where the Kessab-Armenians have been staying for the past couple of days. Let us remind that the deputies are Arman Sahakyan, Samvel Farmanyan, Tevan Poghosyan, Edmon Marukyan, Naira Karapetyan and Levon Martirosyan.

“We had a meeting with the Kessab-Armenians. I must say that it was startling. It was just what we had read in textbooks about the Armenian Genocide and just like the memories of the Armenian Genocide survivors. We had a meeting with the Kessab-Armenians and conveyed everyone’s greetings, compassion and gave them the message that we are with them and that the Republic of Armenia and all Armenians must do their best to help the Syrian-Armenians in this situation,” said Farmanyan.

“We have conducted fact-finding and have specified data partially and completely. There are several Armenian families in need. It’s important to record that the Syrian authorities, including the mayor and governor of Latakia and other high-ranking officials assured that the Syrian government will take all possible measures to ensure the return of the Kessab-Armenians to their homes, something that our compatriots are dreaming of. They also assured that they will continue to help restore all that has been lost. We also conveyed a very important political message-this is not a problem facing a sector of Armenians, but all Armenians around the world. The Kessab-Armenians are inspired by our presence and by the fact that the Republic of Armenia has raised its voice and has declared that Armenians will stand up for their compatriots’ rights,” said Farmanyan.

The deputy stressed the fact that the deputies will present all the proposals to the National Assembly, the RA President and the Government in order to specify future actions and determine the possible mechanisms for support.

Farmanyan added that the delegation would return to Damascus later in the evening.
