Events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence held in Sofia

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence, several events were held under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Bulgaria.

On September 23, guest trumpet player Yervand Margaryan and guest pianist Nara Arakelyan from Armenia gave a joint concert at one of the famous jazz clubs in Sofia. With the accompaniment of the Bulgarian jazz ensemble, the Armenian musicians performed not only famous jazz songs, but also the jazz adaptations of the works of classical Armenian composers, including Komitas and Arno Babajanyan.

On September 24, at the initiative of AGBU Sofia and with the support of the RA Embassy in Bulgaria, the Sofia Conservatory hosted a concert dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia. the AGBU Chamber Orchestra performed the works and jazz adaptations of classical Armenian and foreign composers along with Professor of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, violist Vache Hoveyan, pianist Nara Arakelyan and trumpet player Yervand Margaryan.

On September 25, the National Council of Religious Communities in Bulgaria and the Municipality of Sofia organized an event entitled “Harmony of Diversity” and aimed at instilling interreligious tolerance and mutual respect.

Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova; President of the National Council of Religious Communities in Bulgaria, Professor Ruben Grigoryan and leaders of religious communities gave their welcoming speeches at the event. The event also included performances by ensembles representing various communities, including the Erebuni Orchestra of Plovdiv. The History Museum of Sofia opened an exhibition showcasing the paintings by representatives of the communities. There were also special pavilions.

Among other attendees were officials, as well as leaders of religious communities and heads of diplomatic missions.
