Syrian-Armenian student of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia Antranig Momdjian has received the Educational Award of the RA President in the information technology (IT) sphere for Best Diaspora Armenian Participant.
In an interview with Panorama.am, Antranig said he wasn’t expecting to receive such an award.
“I was surprised, but this is a binding award. It means I have to study harder. I think this is a huge step for my future career,” Momdjian mentioned.
Due to the war in Syria, Antranig and his family moved to Armenia two years ago. The family’s grandmother joined them two days ago, but the uncles still live in Syria. Antranig mentioned that he had dreamed of visiting Armenia since childhood and that he had always longed for the homeland.
“It seems as though the war in Syria provided me and my family with the opportunity to move to Armenia. I think every Diaspora Armenian dreams of living in the homeland. There is only one homeland in the heart of every Diaspora Armenian, and that homeland is Armenia,” Antranig said.
However, he confessed that before moving to Armenia, he wasn’t sure if he would be able to achieve the same success that he had achieved in Syria where he has received the high state award as the best student twice.
“I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to achieve great heights due to the language barrier, but fortunately, I achieved greater success. I study and work, have good friends and feel at home in Armenia,” Antranig mentioned.
His mother has a job, and his 16-year-old sister goes to school and sings in the Little Singers of Armenia Choir.
“We have already decided that even when the war ends, we’ll stay in Armenia. This is our home, our homeland, and we’ll continue our lives here,” Antranig Momdjian said.
