The entrance to and belfry of Forty Holy Children’s Church have been damaged: RA Ambassador to Syria

Hayern Aysor had reported that Aleppo’s Jdeyde District and Parhat Square were bombed on 26 April. The Armenian Prelacy of Aleppo and the 15th century Forty Holy Children’s Church are located near the square.

The RA Ministry of Diaspora contacted RA Ambassador to Syria Arshak Poladyan, who reported that the bombing had damaged the entrance to and belfry of the Forty Holy Children’s Church. Fortunately, there were no victims.

Let us add that the Forty Holy Children’s Church has been the Prelacy of the Diocese of Aleppo since the 15th century and was first recalled in history in 1476. In the past, it was also a Catholic Church where bishops and Catholicoses ordained clergymen and conducted blessing ceremonies with the Holy Muron. The Forty Holy Children’s Church is one of oldest Armenian churches in the Armenian Diaspora. The church’s belfry is considered one of the unique samples of architecture of Aleppo. According to tradition, the site of the Forty Holy Children’s Church and the former St. Mary Church was the site of a Christian cemetery with a small chapel.
