With the overriding majority of votes, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Netherlands passed a decision that attaches importance to the general consent of Turkey and Armenia to their history, expresses the conviction that mutual understanding over the year 1915 is required for the countries to make progress in their relations, expresses hope that the events commemorating the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in the Netherlands and elsewhere will make a contribution to the establishment of respect and mutual acceptance between the communities engaged, assigns the government to continue, in line with the Raufut Decision adopted by consensus in 2004, bilaterally and in the context of the European Union to urge the Turkish government to give a new impetus to the rapprochement with Armenia and find ways of reconciliation with the Armenian government.
The decision was passed with 127 “for” and 13 “against”, as the MFA press service reports.
