RA Minister of Diaspora had more meetings in Sydney

After the trip from Canberra to Sydney, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan met with Member of Parliament of New South Wales Jonathan O’Dea who works closely with the Australian-Armenian community and the Armenian National Committee of Australia.

Issues related to Armenia-Australia relations were discussed.

The minister expressed gratitude to the Parliament of South Wales for recognizing the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, talked about the importance of recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide by the international community and especially the Turkish government in order to prevent genocides and mentioned that more genocides continue today due to Turkey’s denialist position.

After the meeting, the minister and Jonathan O’Dea laid a wreath near the cross-stone (khachkar) placed in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in the garden of the Parliament of New South Wales.

On the same day, the RA Minister of Diaspora gave a press conference for Armenian media outlets.

The issues were related to the Armenia-Diaspora partnership, the programs and events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the current political and economic situation in Armenia, Armenia’s policy and laws on investments, the preservation of the Armenian language and particularly Western Armenian, etc.

The minister also talked about the current situation on the borders between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, issues concerning Syrian-Armenians and the Armenian government’s multilateral assistance, as well as the minister’s meetings in Canberra.

After the press conference, Minister Hranush Hakobyan had a meeting with members of the Armenian Relief Society during which she particularly talked about the major role that Armenian women have played in the preservation of the Armenian identity, talked about the situation in Armenia, the Syrian-Armenians’ issues and the events to be held in April. The minister called on the ARS members to continue their pro-national activities and implement new programs encouraging the return to Armenian roots (“Hayadardzutyun”).

During the day, the RA Minister of Diaspora will also meet with members of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Canada Regional Committee.
