Established in the United States last year, the Syrian Armenian Relief Fund has already transferred 500,000 dollars to Syrian-Armenians. The organizers managed to raise another 100,000 dollars during a charity concert held In Hollywood two weeks ago, reports The Los Angeles Times.
The money is sent to Syria’s alliance of non-profit Armenian organizations that provides food, clothes, construction materials and medical assistance to the Syrian-Armenians. According to the Fund’s representative Zaven Khanjyan, during Armenian Christmas in January, the Fund’s group distributed prepaid amounts in assistance to 5,000 families. Furthermore, prior to the establishment of the Fund, the Armenian Relief Society had raised 100,000 dollars for Armenian schools.
Despite all this, the Fund does not help the Armenians with moving. “We want the Armenians to stay there,” says President of the Armenian Relief Society Lena Bozoian.
