Photo exhibition dedicated to the Armenian Genocide held in Almelo

A photo exhibition devoted to the Armenian Genocide opened at the central library of Almelo on 12 March and will run until 21 March. The same photo exhibition will be held in the Dutch cities of Hengelo, Oldenzal and Amsterdam, as Manuk Mkrtchyan reports to Hayern Aysor from Almelo.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was organized by the “1915 Committee” and at the initiative of Robin Haig Gelij Nersisian, who is also a member of Almelo City Council and represents the Christian Democratic Party.

Among those attending the opening ceremony were leader of the Christian Union (CU) Party of the Parliament of the Netherlands Arie Slob, RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Netherlands Dzyunik Aghajanyan, members of the city council, representatives of various Dutch and Armenian organizations, members of the local Assyrian community, as well as writers, historians and several other guests.

Robin Haig Gelij Nersisian gave his opening remarks, which were followed by speeches by Ambassador Dzyunik Aghajanyan, as well as students of the Armenian Sunday school of Almelo who read the translations of Armenian poets’ poems about the Armenian Genocide.

Minas Arsenyan spoke on behalf of the Armenian National Committee of the Netherlands. Among the speakers representing the Assyrian community were author of the book “Reactions to the Past” Kaya Kirik and member of the Christian Democratic Party Susan Fal-Takak.

Prior to the opening of the exhibition, the delegation led by Arie Slob visited the Armenian Genocide memorial complex and paid tribute to the innocent victims. Afterwards, the delegates held private talks with head of the council of the local church Onnik Geliji and representatives of other Armenian organizations.

Member of the Armenian National Committee Minas Arsenyan donated a book about the Armenian Genocide to the guest, and Arie Slob pledged to visit Yerevan on April 24th to pay tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide at the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex. He also mentioned that he has addressed a letter to the Prime Minister, asking him to visit Yerevan.
