11 years ago this day Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan was brutally killed

Eleven years ago this day, Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov axed Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan in Budapest. On April 3, 2006, the court of Budapest gave Safarov a life sentencing with the right to not being pardoned for 30 years, writes Aparaj.am.
However, on August 31, 2012, the Hungarian government extradited Safarov to Azerbaijan, after which President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev pardoned the assassin and granted him the title of a hero.
Afterwards, Safarov got a promotion and was reimbursed for the salaries that he had not received for 8 years. This led to Armenia’s decision to suspend diplomatic relations with Hungary. Let us remind that on the day of the murder, the criminal had made an attempt to kill another officer of the Armenian army, but it was prevented. The Azerbaijani assassin told police officers that his revenge was not against some officer, but the entire Armenian nation.
