RA Ministry of Diaspora and Armenian Jewellers Foundation announce scholarship contest

The RA Ministry of Diaspora, in association with the Armenian Jewellers Foundation, has decided to grant a scholarship to five Armenian students to pursue studies in “Classification of Diamonds”.

The Armenian Gemological Laboratory-Academy (AGLA) will support the Armenian Jewellers Foundation during the course, which will kick off in September 2015 and will include all aspects of study of diamonds.

Upon successful completion of exams, graduates will become accredited experts in diamond classifications and will be able to continue their activities in jewelry and diamond-cutting.

Applicants must be Armenian (first or second generation), devoted to Armenian national customs and traditions and loyal to their heritage.

Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to AGLA. They must submit a completed application, a letter of recommendation and a CV by sending them to the Department of Armenian Communities of Europe at the RA Ministry of Diaspora (europedep@yahoo.fr). Lessons and textbooks will be in Armenian, meaning knowledge of Armenian language is mandatory. Basic knowledge of physics and chemistry is preferable. Classes begin at 18:00, while the hours for practical lessons will be based on the students’ schedules. Classes are held every day, except for the weekends and holidays.

The deadline for submitting applications and documents is August 30, 2015. The form and requirements of the application are available online. They can also be submitted via the AJFA. Preference will be given to worthy applicants from the following communities:

1)     Yerevan,

2)    RA provinces,

3)    Artsakh,

4)    Community of Syrian-Armenians having been displaced and having moved to Armenia.

5)    Communities of the Armenian Diaspora.

The curriculum includes:

1)            Nature of diamonds and unwritten laws of diamond-cutters,

2)            Physics of diamonds,

3)           Physical characteristics of diamonds,

4)           Crystallogical proportionality of diamonds,

5)           Optical properties of diamonds,

6)           Color of diamonds and the nature of that,

7)            Synthesis of diamonds (HPHT, CVD),

8)           Formation and extraction of diamonds,

9)           Technological mineralogy and classification of rough diamonds,

10)         Classification of diamonds,

11)          Artificial and ennobled diamonds:
