Lawsuit against Turkey for return of Catholicosate of Sis to be filed in two weeks

Several national, church-related and administrative issues were discussed during the plenary sessions of the religious and political assemblies of the Armenian Central Department held at the Monastery of Antelias of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia on February 7. As posted on the official website of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, the participants of the sessions also discussed the lawsuit to be filed to Turkey with the demand for the return of the historic Catholicosate of Sis.

Particularly His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia declared that in two weeks the Catholicosate of Sis will be filing a lawsuit in a Turkish court and emphasized that the trial will be one of the special events in the series of events devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The purpose of filing the lawsuit is to call the international community’s attention to the return of properties belonging to the Armenians in the context of reparations for the Armenian Genocide.

As Armeniangenocide100.org reports, the Catholicos of Cilicia mentioned that he has had several meetings with international law experts in regard to the issue over the past three years.
