French city of Nancy ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

Turkish film director Fatih Akın’s Armenian Genocide film “The Cut” was shown at Camer Cinema in Nancy, France on February 1, as Lusine Derdrian from the Armenian community of Nancy reports to “Hayern Aysor”.

The film “The Cut” is the third Armenian Genocide film being shown in this northeastern city of France since 2012.

The author and initiator is the newly established Armenian community of Nancy.

As head of the community Arthur Avedian mentioned, the first film was the film “The Lark Farm” by the Brothers Taviani, followed by Henri Verneuil’s film “Mother”, which also starred Jackie Nersisian as Abgar and was shown in 2013.

Let us mention that the showing of the film “The Cut” brought together many people, including not only Armenians, but also Frenchmen who were so interested in the issue of the Armenian Genocide that they not only watched the film, but also participated in the discussion organized by the Armenian community. The debate was rather heated and interesting. As Avedian mentioned, it’s more important to spark the interest of Frenchmen and inform them about the Armenian Genocide because unlike other Armenian-populated cities of France, the Frenchmen in Nancy are quite unaware of this dark page in the history of the Armenian people. According to Avedian, the Armenian community of Nancy is organizing several other events ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, but fell short of providing information about all the events.
