Foreigners on the Armenian Genocide (part 1) Hasan M. Yusuf
Hasan M. Yusuf is a writer, journalist and screenwriter. He was born on February 1, 1948 in Dalia village in the Syrian region of Latakia. In the early 1970s, he was a cultural journalist. In 1978, he served as editor-in-chief of “Teshrin El Timeshgie” newspaper, and joined the council of the Union of Journalists of Syria in 1981.
Among the works by Hasan M. Yusuf are the collection of short stories “El Arif Ghatpa” and “Madame Sapha” (1993). Yusuf has also written plays, and the children’s play “El Kalep El Azrak” is the one that should be mentioned. There have been many multi-series films based on Yusuf’s books, among which is the multi-series “Ekhuet al Turap” film, which covers the Armenian Genocide as well.
Several works by Hasan M. Yusuf have been translated into English, French, Russian and Chinese.
Hasan’s play “Ekhuet al Turap” is about the Arab revolution that arose in Syria, which had been under Turkish dominance for four centuries, as well as the Armenian Genocide, that is, the 1.5 million Armenians who were killed just because of their religious belonging. The film also presents the Turks’ crimes and atrocities.
According to Arabianbusiness website of Dubai, Hasan Yusuf has been included in the list of the world’s top 100 influential Arab intellectuals.
On April 24, 2014, author, researcher Hasan M. Yusuf was a guest on the TV show “Mn El Art” (From the Land) broadcast on “Al Mayatin” TV. During an interview with the topic “Armenians are Brothers of the Land”, he said the following: “Armenians must serve as an example for our Palestinian brothers whose always have the right to claims. The Armenians demand their right in the best way.”
