Turks’ anti-Armenian slogans on Dutch parliament’s agenda

The slogans announced during the Turks’ rally against the construction of an Armenian Genocide Memorial in the Dutch city of Almelo in June are now on the agenda of the Parliament of the Netherlands, reports the Turkish Sonhaber.

According to the source, in the response letter to the House of Representatives, Holland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs wrote the following as he interpreted the slogans and national music heard during the Turks’ protest: “That doesn’t contribute to the solution to the serious issue at hand”, reports Ermenihaber.am.

The Dutch minister especially views the music played during the rally and the screams of “Karabakh  is going to become the cemetery of Armenians” as a provocation.

In his letter, the minister also mentions that Turkish officials are still very sensitive to the issue of the Armenian Genocide, adding that the Netherlands has called on Turkey to be more responsible.

Let us remind that the Turks had organized a protest against the construction of an Armenian Genocide memorial in the yard of an Armenian church (the opening of the memorial complex was held on April 24, 2014).

Holland’s Christian-Democratic Alliance (CDA), the Socialist Party (SP), Liberty Party (PVV), Orthodox Reform of Holland Party (SGP) and the Christian Union Party (CU) had declared that the June 1 protest was most likely backed by the Turkish government.

Some officials have reported that Turkey’s Consulate General and representatives of several mosques in Holland had backed the protest and have demanded that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands meet with his Turkish counterpart and clarify the issue. In addition, the officials have demanded a meeting with Turkey’s Consul General in Holland.
