Armenian cross-stone consecrated in Saint Petersburg

On October 24, Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Saint Petersburg Hrair Karapetyan, Head of Arabkir District Hrair Antonyan and representative of Yerevan Municipality to Saint Petersburg Armenak Karapetyan had a meeting with Head of Administration of the Vasileostrovsky District Yulia Kisilyova and representatives of the administration, reports the RA MFA press service.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues on the strengthening of relations between the regions of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, economic and cultural relations, particularly the issues related to business and culture in the Vasileostrovsky and Arabkir Districts.

The meeting was followed by the solemn opening of an Armenian cross-stone at Kamsky Park in Vasileostrovsky District ahead of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

Among those participating in the opening ceremony were representatives of the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Saint Petersburg, delegates of the Arabkir District on an official visit to Saint Petersburg, representatives of the Government of Saint Petersburg and the administration of Vasileostrovsky District, spiritual fathers, members of the local Armenian community, as well as citizens and schoolchildren of the Vasileostrovsky District.

The event began with opening remarks by Head of Vasileostrovsky District Yulia Kisilyova, Head of Arabkir District Hrair Antonyan, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Government of Saint Petersburg Sergei Markov and RA Consul General in Saint Petersburg Hrair Karapetyan, who attached importance to the friendly relations between the municipal authorities and the Armenian community and mentioned that the opening of the cross-stone is further evidence of the growing friendship between the two cities.

As reported by the Department of Information and Public Relations at Yerevan Municipality, according to an initial agreement, the park where the cross-stone has been placed will soon be renamed as Yerevan Park, and the statue of the great Komitas will be placed next to the cross-stone next year.
