President of France Francois Hollande will participate in the official ceremony dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide to be held in front of the statue of Komitas at Canada Square in Paris on April 24th. The office of the President of France has confirmed the news.
The Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France released today on Armenews website information about the press release, expressing gratitude to France, which “will pay tribute to the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide via the President of the Republic”. “It’s a significant event that must be duly appreciated, taking into consideration France’s international reputation,” as stated in the message.
“The presence of the President of the Republic goes to show how loyal he is to his commitments,” as stated by the representatives of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France, taking into consideration the pledge that Francois Hollande had made during his presidential campaign to attend the Armenian Genocide Commemoration events.
French President Hollande will be attending an official April 24th ceremony for the first time since his election.
“Hollande is attending the event ahead of his visit to Armenia, amid the tense situation in the world due to the ethnic cleansing of Kessab and the radicalization of Turkey’s denial. The French President’s words are especially important and expected for the citizens of France and all citizens around the world,” said the representative of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France, calling on Frenchmen to show active participation in the April 24th ceremony.
