Akhaltskha becoming a self-governing city by new draft law
The Parliament of Georgia passed yesterday a new draft law on self-government bodies by a third reading. According to the new draft law, only cities considered regional centers will have self-governance.
Among the cities entitled to self-governance is Akhaltskha city, which is the center of Samtskhe-Javakheti region and where Armenians currently make up nearly 40% of the population.
According to the new draft law, the mayor of Akhaltskha will be elected.
