In an interview with France Press agency, President of Syria Bashar Al-Assad touched upon the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

Assad particularly mentioned the following: “The brutality and inhumanity that the terrorists have manifested during the Syrian conflict reminds us of what happened 500 years ago in medieval Europe. If we compare that with what’s happening now, it is similar to the Armenian massacres perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks when 1.5 million Armenians and half a million Orthodox Syrians were killed in Turkey’s territory and in Syria.”

Assad went on to complain about Western officials who, according to him, don’t realize what’s happening in the region. Assad also mentioned that they understand what’s going on at a later period and when they do understand, the reality is already totally different.
