Armenians are bringing Iraqis together
On April 23 at 19:30 in Baghdad, the bells of Armenian churches around the world rang on the occasion of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, which took the lives of 1.5 million Armenians.
On the same day, the Armenians of Baghdad gathered in front of the Turkish Embassy with the Iraqi national flag. The demonstrators were accompanied by scouts of the Armenian Club.
The demonstrators were holding posters condemning the events of that year and demanding that Turkey refrain from interfering in Iraq’s political affairs.
The demonstrators stood in front of the Turkish Embassy, read the text of their statement and demanded that the Ambassador or the Ambassador’s representative come out to receive the text of the statement demanding Turkey’s recognition and reparations. However, the doors of the embassy remained closed. To confuse the demonstrators, the embassy’s representatives lowered the Turkish national flag to make them understand that they had come to the wrong place. However, the demonstrators posted the text of the statement on the wall of the embassy.
The Armenians’ demonstration was not spontaneous, but examined and well organized. Through this demonstration, they tried to make the whole world know that the Turks today are the descendants of the Ottoman Turks and continue on the same path of their ancestors who ruled Iraq for more than 400 years and are now supporting the extremist groups, easing their invasion into the cities of Iraq and Syria without even thinking about the fact that they are killing their brothers who are followers of their religion.
Today, Turkish politicians dream of repossessing their once seized territories at the expense of the sufferings of nations.
During the demonstration, the Armenians also held the Iraqi national flags, raising the voices of all Iraqis and showing their loyalty to the country.
