Recently, the Armenian Culture Home in Bucharest held an event dedicated to the 60^th anniversary of Romanian-Armenian journalist, writer, translator Madlen Karakshyan’s career in journalism and the presentation of the fifth volume of the writer’s book “With Armenians and About Armenians”.

This collection of historical and illustrated books has been released between 2001 and 2013 and contains more than 1,200 pages of Karakashyan’s articles devoted to notable Armenian figures, her interviews with them, as well as cognitive articles about Romanian-Armenian literary and cultural life and Romanian-Armenians. Madlen Karakashyan has interviewed several notable figures, including Hakob Sirun, Suren Kolantchyan, Aram Khachaturian, Charles Aznavour, Yervand Serobyan, Yervand Tumajanyan, Aram Gharabekian, Hrachya Tamrazyan and many other Armenians, Romanians and other foreigners. Madlen Karakashyan has also written several critiques about the books about Armenians by Armenian or Romanian writers. In the mentioned volumes, the author has commemorated the late Catholicos Vazgen I, Avetik Isahakyan, William Saroyan and other great Armenians.

Appreciating the author’s contribution to literature during the event, President of the Union of Armenians of Romania, writer Varujan Vosganian mentioned that “we have the opportunity to have an encounter with an author who is deeply connected to her Armenian roots and the values that Armenians have given to world civilization”.

During the event, the congratulatory message of RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan was read, and Madlen Karakashyan was granted the “William Saroyan” Medal of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the diploma of the RA Ministry of Culture for her literary activities and activities for the preservation of the Armenian identity.

Madlen Karakashyan was born on December 19, 1934 in Krayova, Romania. She studied at the Kuza College and the Corneti Conservatory of Krayova. Karakashyan began her career as a secretary at the editorial office of “Nor Kyank” Romanian-Armenian Weekly and went on to work as a journalist for Romanian television, radio and the press.

Madlen Karakashyan has also translated several works of Armenian authors and works about Armenians from Armenian and French to Romanian, including Avetik Isahakyan’s “Abul Lala Mahari”, “Alexander Shirvanzadeh’s “Kaos”, as well as Suren Kolanjyan’s book about Catholicos Vazgen I and Richard Balduchi’s book devoted to Aznavour. Madlen Karakashyan’s valuable book is her five-volume book “With Armenians and About Armenians”, which includes the articles devoted to notable Armenian figures, interviews with them, as well as materials devoted to Romanian-Armenian literary and cultural life and Romanian-Armenians. The above mentioned materials have been published in dozens of newspapers and periodicals throughout Romania and have been included in the programs broadcast on Romanian television and radio.
