On May 23, the Central Home of Writers of Moscow hosted a solemn event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia and entitled “The New Path of the Centuries-old Armenia as a State”, gathering Russian MPs and political figures, heads of non-governmental organizations, scholars, businessmen and cultural figures.
Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and leaders of Armenian organizations gave speeches devoted to the significance of the restoration of Armenian statehood, the characteristics of Armenia’s development and Russian-Armenian relations. The event also featured musical performances by well-known artists.
In particular, President of DIALOG NGO, Co-Chair of the Moscow Committee Coordinating the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia and the May Heroic Battles Yuri Navoyan stated the following in his speech: “The classic Armenian writer Paruyr Sevak wrote the following: “Generations, recognize yourselves through Sardarapat!” I think the great poet’s commandment is pressing today as well.
We Armenians remember the Battle of Sardarapat where the Armenian nation became self-organized and made an endeavor and where, contrary to what was destined, salvation and political rebirth let us Armenians restore our statehood on a part of the historic territory of Armenia.
The Battle of Sardarapat was an awakening for Armenian citizens and laid the foundations for a regular Armenian army.
Today, we remember the Battle of Sardarapat in Russia where Armenians make tremendous contributions in the culturally diverse Russia and to the country’s development with their diligence, creations and talent. The fact that Russian military servicemen will also be participating in the parade dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia in Sardarapat on 28 May is symbolic and is standard.
We remember the Battle of Sardarapat and wish to make Armenia a sustainable, developing and attractive country. Recently, citizens of Armenia became self-organized again in order to overcome the barriers hindering the country’s advancement. I am certain that this new political rebirth and the new energy of Armenian citizens will potentially ensure progress and help the Armenian State achieve new heights.
Yes, we remember the Battle of Sardarapat!”
