Turks building mosque with stones of Armenian Varagavank Monastery
The stones of the Armenian Varagavank Monastery of Van are being used to build a mosque, reported Yeniozgurpolitika.
“The church is regularly destroyed, and the stones are used for construction of mosques, as well as homes and other structures in the nearby villages. The church is on the verge of extinction,” Director of the Society for Conservation of Cultural Monuments of Van Ali Kalcek told the local mass media outlets, reported Artsakhpress.
Currently, courses devoted to the Koran are being held for the local children at the Armenian Church.
Varagavank Monastery was built in the 7th-8th centuries B.C. The church was seriously damaged during the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Later, it was restored through the efforts of the Armenians of Turkey.
