1,200 little singers of Armenia to perform on one stage, International Day of Choral Singing to be celebrated with a special concert

Armenia will celebrate the International Day of Choral Singing for the third time on December 8. The big concert at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall will bring together Armenia’s top state, recreational and children’s choirs, which will perform the songs by Armenian and foreign composers. In an interview with ArmenPress, Director of “Little Singers of Armenia” Choir Tatevik Harutyunyan mentioned that the concert is being organized by the “Little Armenian Singers” International Association and is being held under the initiative of the RA Ministry of Culture and with support from Yerevan Municipality.

“The audience will be in store for a surprise. The nearly 1,200 children in the audience will try to perform a song together under the direction of founder of the “Little Singers of Armenia” Choir Tigran Hekekyan,” Harutyunyan said as she let everyone in on the secret a little.

Even though the title of the song is going to be a surprise, it will be a special experiment to celebrate the day in a special way and engage the children in the audience. Among the attendees will be students of different state schools, members of state and international organizations and artists.

The “Little Singers of Armenia” Choir sings classical, modern, jazz and bossanova songs.

The choir was founded in 1992 by Professor of Komitas Conservatory, choirmaster Tigran Hekekyan. The choir has 40 female singers between the ages of 11 and 18.

Throughout the past 20 years of its existence, the choir has participated in international song contests and has received several awards. The choir has also performed in several countries around the world and gave a concert tour in Japan in the summer of 2012.

The concert in Japan was dedicated to the 20th diplomatic relations between Armenia and Japan and the 500th Printing. The choir’s tour to Japan can only be compared with its 50-day concert tour in Europe and 20 states of the United States in 1995 in terms of grandeur, significance and high level of organization.

The choir will give more concerts abroad in May 2014.
