Ambassador Mkrtchyan visits Lebanon’s Tripoli and El Mina

On July 17, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Lebanon Samvel Mkrtchyan visited the Lebanese cities of Tripoli and El Mina. The visits were part of the initiative for the establishment of relations between Armenia and Lebanon at the local level, reported the press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Hayern Aysor.

In Tripoli, which is the second largest city of Lebanon with a population of 500,000, Ambassador Mkrtchyan had a meeting with Mayor Ahmad Kamarreddin. During the meeting, the mayor presented the trade and economic situation, the perspectives of development of trade and economy and particularly touched upon the free economic zone created at the harbor in Tripoli.

Upon the request of Ahmad Kamareddin, Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented the conditions of the investment climate in Armenia and the opportunities for carrying out activities. The sides considered it appropriate to organize the visit of a relevant delegation to Armenia in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tripoli.

In El Mina, which is located right next to Tripoli, Ambassador Mkrtchyan discussed with Mayor Abdel Kader Alameddin the preservation of the lifestyles of the Armenian community that used to be quite large.

Highly appreciating the Armenians’ contributions and the close collaboration spanning decades, the mayor expressed willingness to examine the opportunities for development of the relations with Armenia, particularly in the tourism sector, for which purpose he will be visiting Armenia in the near future.
