Events dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide held in Austria
On the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, commemoration events have been held near Armenian Genocide monuments and cross-stones in several cities across Austria, including Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Graz and Baden, reported the press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Hayern Aysor.
The commemoration events in Vienna kicked off with an intercession performed at the St. Hripsime Armenian Apostolic Church on 23 April. After the intercession, not only representatives of Austrian-Armenian organizations, but also Austrian public figures, as well as writers and publicists participated in the presentation of the book “Armenian Woman” by German writer-screenwriter Thomas Hardwig in the hall next to the Church.
On 24 April, a ceremony commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide was held near the monument to great Austrian writer and humanist Franz Werfel placed at Schiller Square in central Vienna. Among the participants were not only several representatives of the Austrian-Armenian community, but also Austrian public and political figures and journalists.
After the joint prayer, Vahagn Amirjanyan spoke on behalf of the council of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Austria. The representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Austria read the address of President of the Republic of Armenia addressed to his fellow Armenians on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The ceremony also featured musical performances by the Ani Armenian Choir and recitation of poems. After the ceremony, wreaths and flowers were laid near the monument to Werfel.
In the evening of that same day, members of Austrian-Armenian community organizations were invited to the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria where Minister Sebastian Kurz had organized a meeting and reception in honor of the representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Community of Austria and the other Oriental Christian communities living in Austria on the occasion of April 24th.
