Nijmegen’s Van Armenian Sunday School celebrated International Mother Language Day

The hall of the Unified Armenians in Holland organization of Nijmegen was filled with the colors of Armenia this time.

To celebrate International Mother Language Day, the children of the local Van Armenian Sunday School had selected the dialects of the regions of Historic Armenia as a topic.

As reported the Diary of the Netherlands to Hayern Aysor, this time the children presented the dialects of Artsakh, Yerevan and Sasun, the routines, daily lives and clothing of the peoples of those regions, starting from national costumes and ending with national songs and dances and stories about traditional dishes.

The beautiful costumes presented by the children of Van Armenian Sunday School were made by Tamara Poghosyan-Stepanyan, who is loved and respected as a parent. Overall, the event had sparked great interest.

During the cognitive event, the children’s parents and the guests learned about their Armenian roots. What was especially interesting was the part devoted to Artsakh. In fact, the slogan for the event was “What are YOU doing for Karabakh?”

At the end, the organizers and the guests tasted the traditional dishes of the respective regions that they had made themselves, including Zhengyalov Hats, Harisa, a variety of dolmas, rice with emmer wheat, as well as lavash and pastries from Armenia.

The event was a success, and the participants appreciated the children of Van Armenian Sunday School (Director Sveta Abrahamyan) with their rounds of applause.
