Sevag Hagopian: “Let’s try to make Diaspora Armenian media outlets “repatriate” to the homeland as well”
There were many speeches given during the 8th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora under the title “Armenian Statehood: Axis of Unity”, and most of the participants also made proposals.
Hayern Aysor presents the opinion that Editor-in-Chief of Lebanon’s Zartonk Daily Sevag Hagopian expressed during the forum.
“I would add the words “as a destination for repatriation” to the title “Armenian Statehood: Axis of Unity”. If the term “repatriation” is used for Diaspora Armenians, why can’t we try to use it for Diaspora Armenian journalists? Assimilation of the community is not the only problem in the Diaspora. Diaspora Armenian media outlets also have their problems. It is no secret that print media is declining. It requires many expenses, and there is a lack of human potential. Why not make the media and other works “repatriate” or “move” to the homeland? Let us do in the homeland what we can do abroad. We can also have a headquarters for Diaspora Armenian media outlets in the homeland. If we can gather in the homeland for these kinds of forums once every two years, why can’t we gather in the homeland to carry out our daily activities?
This is a very important issue. First of all, working in the homeland is different. Second of all, working in the field of media in the homeland will require fewer investments than it does in the Diaspora.
How can we make the “repatriation” of Diaspora Armenian media possible by creating a headquarters? Diaspora Armenian media outlets can open their offices in the homeland. On behalf of Zartonk Daily, I can proudly say that the editorial office is already carrying out stenography, printing, design and other editorial work in Armenia.
If individual media outlets have problems with opening their offices in Armenia, the headquarters can help them solve those problems. There are no more complications, and we can work together. Together we can do a lot in the homeland.”
