Armenian Missionary Association of America: Thoughts about the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence
Dear compatriots,
On September 21, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of independence of our homeland. We are happy for and proud of our homeland. It is the pride of all Armenians scattered across the globe, the centuries-old desire, prayer and dream of the Armenian nation.
On behalf of the employees and volunteers of the Armenia Chapter of the Armenian Missionary Association of America, I congratulate us all on the anniversary of our independence. Alongside that, I would like for us to consider the future of our country’s independence.
De jure independence is when a nation declares its independence and gains power within the territory of its country.
However, de facto independence is gained step-by-step and throughout decades as a state becomes strong in economic, political and strategic sectors and takes steps to be out of the influence of other states.
This is like the independence of an individual. A minor is dependent on his parents, be it de jure or de facto. When a child becomes an adult, he is independent from the legal perspective. However, de facto, he gains independence step-by-step, studying, ensuring his income and, most importantly, receiving the respect and confidence from his parents and the people around him due to his sincerity, maturity and wisdom.
Modern-day Armenia is 25 years old. This is a very short time from the historical perspective. Our newly established state has made great progress over the past 25 years, for which we thank God.
At the same time, we are aware that we still have a long way to go to grow, become mature and become established as a country. It is the duty of each and every citizen to help Armenia grow and develop as a state and as a country. The people are the state.
A country grows and prospers when every resident, be it an average citizen or high-ranking official, performs his civil duties and is guided by the Christian principles of love, sincerity and justice.
Our de facto independence lies in our strength and development.
In closing, I would like to add the following: May God bless our homeland so that it continues to grow and develop and reinforce its independence!
AMAA Armenia
