Two Syrian-Armenian schoolchildren win first prizes at 6th Tekeyan Olympiad

On April 15, the winners of the 6th Tekeyan Olympiad received their awards during a grand awards ceremony held with the support of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and through the efforts of the Tekeyan Center Foundation in the hall of the Department of Culture of the Armenian State Pedagogical University.

Since 2010, the Tekeyan Center Foundation has been carrying out the Tekeyan Olympiad Program, which includes Mathematics, Armenian Language and Literature and English Language competitions. The goal of the program is to promote and encourage the knowledge of Armenian and foreign languages, Armenian literature and other subjects, provide schoolchildren with the opportunity to show their knowledge in a healthy competition and become familiar with their peers residing in different regions.

Director of the Tekeyan Center Foundation Armen Tsulikyan, Principal of Tekeyan School of Karb village Arsen Ohanyan, Deputy Director of “Usmunk” School of Yerevan Anahit Avetisyan and math teacher of Karen Demirtchyan School N 139 Anahit Gevorgyan gave their welcoming remarks at the event.

Among the participants was Head of the Division for Relations with Pan-Armenian and International Organizations at the RA Ministry of Diaspora Anahit Davtyan who, on behalf of the RA Ministry of Diaspora, expressed gratitude to Director of Tekeyan Center Foundation Armen Tsulikyan, the Foundation’s President, London-Armenian Vartan Ouzounian and the organizers of the Olympiad. Davtyan stated that nine Syrian-Armenian schoolchildren residing in Armenia participated in the Olympiad for the first time this year. “This served as a wonderful opportunity for them to establish more contacts with their peers and integrate into the new environment more quickly. In a short period of time, they mastered the programs in Armenia, competed with their peers and scored victories,” Davtyan added.

Syrian-Armenians Mihran Kuzibiukian won the first prize in the English Language competition, while Narod Keyvanian won the first prize in the Mathematics competition.

Encouraging prizes were granted to all the 65 participants.
