Syrian-Armenian drivers to continue to receive driver’s licenses

The Government of the Republic of Armenia has adopted a decision to regulate the procedure for issuing driver’s licenses to citizens of Armenian descent of the Syrian Arab Republic prior to 31 December 2016, as reported the press service of the Government, according to Hayern Aysor.
According to the justification, the driver’s licenses issued to them in Syria do not comply with the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic adopted on 8 November 1968, and as a result, they are not considered usable in the territory of Armenia. Exchanging them is also prohibited.
Thus, there is a need to continue to issue driver’s licenses throughout the year. The decision will provide the opportunity to solve the problems that have emerged and the relations that may arise prior to 31 December 2016.
