There are currently about 16,000 Syrian-Armenians residing in Armenia. This is what RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan mentioned during a February 11 press conference. “We have over 2,000 Syrian-Armenian schoolchildren and more than 500 Syrian-Armenian university students.
Over 300 Syrian-Armenians have successful businesses, and more than half of them have received loans from the government with a minimum 4% interest rate for a 5-year period. The government grants $1,520 dollars, which is quite enough to start a business,” Hranush Hakobyan mentioned, as reports “Armenpress”.
When asked if Syrian-Armenians have tax privileges or not, the minister mentioned the following: “No, they don’t have taxing privileges, but they have the privilege to apply for a loan. We also teach them Armenian legislation, provide them with one-month training courses and teach them Russian and Eastern Armenian. They integrate very quickly and easily.”
