A criminal case under the justifications “of being a member of an armed terrorist organization” and “of carrying out the propaganda of an armed terrorist organization” has been instigated against Kurdish figure Ahmet Turk, who has recognized the Armenian Genocide and is the incumbent mayor of Mardin, as reports the Turkish Demokrathaber.net, according to “Armenpress”.
The 4th Criminal Court Examining Heavy Crimes has accepted the 44-page accusatory conclusion prepared against Ahmet Turk and drawn up by the republican prosecutor’s office of Diyarbakir. The Kurdish figure may face imprisonment from 7 years and 6 months to 18 years. Ahmet Turk has given many speeches devoted to the Armenian Genocide. In 2014, he apologized to the Armenians for the Genocide of 1915 in the Swedish capital of Stockholm and said the following:
“In 1911, three leaders of the Itihat ve Teraki Party met and made a historic decision to reduce the number of Christians, turn the Alevis into Sunnis and make the Kurds assimilate. Unfortunately, during the perpetration of that plan, the Kurds were used in 1915. We still revive the pain that our fathers and forefathers experienced during those massacres. We will never forget the pain of our brothers.”
