Evgeny Kissin will not perform in Turkey until the Turkish government recognizes the Armenian Genocide

On December 13, The New York Times released its interview with Evgeny Kissin. In the interview, Kissin touched upon Turkey’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide once again and particularly mentioned that he wouldn’t perform in Turkey until the Turkish government acknowledges that the mass murder of the Armenians in 1915 was a genocide.
“I personally believe that if people in such countries learn that some musicians refuse to play there because they are dismayed by what their rulers do, they will make intelligent, thinking people more aware,” Evgeny Kissin said.
He also mentioned that he also hasn’t performed in Russia for the past six years, but that he might perform in 2017.
Over the past three years, Evgeny Kissin has given big solo concerts in Armenia twice (in 2012 and in 2015) and has carried out large charity programs.
