RA Minister of Diaspora receives representatives of “Krtasirats” Cultural Society of Aleppo

On November 18, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received Director of the Martiros Saryan Academy of Aleppo and painter Hrazdan Tokmajian, as well as representatives of the “Krtasirats” Cultural Society of Aleppo, including Alexan Garadanian, Nora Pilavjian and Tamar Ohanian.

The guests gave Hranush Hakobyan their letter of gratitude in which, on behalf of the representatives of the “Krtasirats” Cultural Society of Aleppo and the “Krtasirats” S. Chemberjian Secondary School, they expressed their gratitude for making the publication of Hrazdan Tokmajian’s album-study entitled “Embroidery of Aintab” possible-something that the Armenians of Aintab around the world had been dreaming of for years. “The book entitled “Embroidery of Aintab”, which was released under your sponsorship and with the support of the “Pyunik” Pan-Armenian Human Resources Development Foundation, is a major step for the sacred act of preserving Armenian culture. It eternalized the art and culture that Armenian women of Aintab have created throughout the centuries,” the letter reads.

In her turn, the minister expressed deep gratitude to the guests and namely to all Syrian-Armenians for their great patriotism and their devotion to preserving the historical and cultural values of the Armenian people and for the fact that even the tragic events taking place in Syria can’t distract them from carrying out that sacred act.

Afterwards, the sides discussed the state of Aleppo and the Armenians of Aleppo. Alexan Garadanian, who is a member of the board of trustees of Chemberjian Secondary School, told the minister that though there is still no water and electricity in Aleppo, the school remains open. According to Garadanian, the school currently has 420 students, and the Armenians of Aleppo are making efforts to continue their lives.

The sides also discussed the Syrian-Armenians’ participation in the events held by the Ministry of Diaspora, the publication of new studies and other issues related to the Syrian-Armenians.

President of the Center for Coordination of Syrian-Armenians’ Issues NGO Lena Haladjian was also participating in the meeting.
