Armenian community of Aleppo not devastated by bombings in Armenian-populated district: Jirair Reyisian

Citizens of the Armenian-populated Nor Geghi (Nor Gyugh-New Village) District of Aleppo can hear the sounds of clashes and bombings, but there are no victims. This is what press speaker of the Aleppo Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Aleppo Jirair Reyisian told Panorama.am.

“There were bombings and even victims in the non-Christian-populated sector of that district two days ago, but there was no harm to our community,” Reyisian said.

According to him, Aleppo is now facing big problems with living conditions after being deprived of water for several days. “Life became difficult for us. We started using water more carefully, and people had to buy water from water sellers.”

Water and electricity are supplied for the time being, but with restrictions.

As far as the social condition of the Armenians in Aleppo is concerned, the member of the local Armenian community mentioned the following: “The Arabs and Armenians are similar. Of course, it’s not the same anymore, and it has become hard to find a job. There is inflation, but there are tasks that people do inevitably to earn some money. Overall, the people are in a very bad economic situation,” Reyisian said.
