Turks concerned about Belgian PM’s use of term ?Armenian Genocide’

Belgium’s Prime Minister has called the mass killings of Armenians between 1915 and 1917 genocide, making Turkish presses concerned and in panic.

According to Ermenihaber.am, the title of the articles of most online media outlets reads as follows: “Belgium’s Prime Minister Also Said Genocide”.

Touching upon the topic in an article published on the Belgian La Soir, the Turkish Yeniasya website also recalls that Belgium’s Minister of Foreign Affairs had also used the term ?genocide’ in April.

The article published in La Soir states that on June 18, Prime Minister of Belgium Charles Michel, on behalf of his government, called the Armenian massacres organized by the Young Turks in the Ottoman Empire a century ago genocide during the plenary session of the House of Representatives.

“I believe the tragic events that took place in the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1917 should be called genocide. That’s also the Belgian government’s position,” the Prime Minister declared in response to the question from honorary leader of the Flemish People’s Movement and author of the draft resolution on Armenian Genocide recognition Peter de Ruver.

Let us mention that the Senate of Belgium had passed a resolution on Armenian Genocide recognition in 1998.
