Australian adviser Tony Zappa has made a statement devoted to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide at the Federal Chamber of the Parliament of Australia, reports the Armenian National Committee of Australia, according to “Armenpress”.
“Although the Turkish government has acknowledged the fact that atrocities were committed, it continues to deny the fact that they were genocide and views the events as atrocities that took place during the war,” the Australian lawmaker and longstanding supporter of Armenian Genocide recognition mentioned.
He commemorated the 100th year anniversary of the massacre of 1.5 million Armenians between 1915 and 1923 and expressed his support to the victims’ families. Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of Australia Vatche Ghahramanian expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for his comments and attached importance to the fact that the lawmaker indicated the ongoing policy of denial of the Republic of Turkey on the historic events that took place between 1915 and 1923.
